Ever heard the saying that ‘Any day you wake up on this side of the soil is a good day?’
Sometimes I look in the mirror and say ‘Who is that old guy?’ Getting older is inevitable and it’s much better than the alternative ! (Dying)
A few years ago one of my mentors passed away and I still think about him every few days. When I am coaching others his phrases just pop out like they were my own. I am so grateful for the many mentors and coaches I have had over the past 40 years.
Seeing my friends that I grew up with posting their birthdays on Facebook that they are 60 years old reminds me that I am getting older.too! None of us want to dwell on that appointment we will all eventually have where you will be the guest of honour at the front of the room in a box. It has been scientifically proven that we have 100% mortality !
Most obituaries list all the accomplishments the deceased did in their lifetime and the loved ones they left behind.
As I consider the things that really mean the most to me in life it is friendships and family . Business has certainly been a big part of my life and I am one of those workaholic type people who loves what they do. But what is it that I really love about what I do?
Its not the money, its not the prestige but it is the friendships I have built while being in business for the past 40 years that mean the most. It’s the memories of helping families to turn their lives around financially, seeing people send their kids to University and live their dreams. It is the person who was an engineer or a housewife that came to work with me on a part time basis and made a career change .Today their lives are richer and larger because I was willing to be their mentor.
Maybe I’m just getting sentimental as I get older but I am so proud of all the thousands of people we have been able to help in both the USA and UK to have a better lifestyle. Living with purpose has made my life so meaningful and every day I am grateful that as a kid at 19 years old I had a mentor take me under their wings and help me . My job is to pass that Baton onto a new generation of people and some day I hope a few of these people will say. ‘I remember that Jeff Lestz guy. I read his books, I listened to his coaching and my life is better for that.’
When we give ourselves away and water others we actually benefit from it! In the end it really is about the relationships we built and how we sowed into other peoples lives that make a difference.
So, while you still have breath keep sowing into other peoples lives and your life will become even more enriched.
